use
Place a suitable bait in the trap, ideally a piece of bread fried in bacon or a piece of bacon. Mice will not despise a nut if you live in a strictly vegetarian household.
Stretch the folding spring mechanism to its furthest position and, while holding it with your finger, carefully rest the support rod in the indentation in the bait plate. The less you tuck the thorn into the spline, the more responsive the trap will be. A properly stretched mousetrap should snap even with a light tap on the table. You do not need to wear gloves when handling the wooden trap, unlike rats, mice do not mind human smell.
Lean the trap against the wall perpendicular to the floor. The mouse hits the bait right there and the folding mechanism can't miss.Check the trap regularly and re-set or reset the bait if necessary.
If you have any pets at home, you can place the baited trap in an extermination station to prevent them from getting to it. The mouse takes the extermination station as a hiding place in which it feels safe.
Set traps in the late afternoon or evening. The mouse is a nOcturnal animal, so you increase the likelihood of success if you set the trap before darkness falls. In the dark, you might disturb the mouse unnecessarily.
Set the trap in places where mice are likely to be present. Place them along walls where mice are most likely to scurry. They avoid open spaces and do not like to cross them. They usually come out through cracks in walls and floors.
Traps should be placed where mice can find food sources. Not under the bed, but rather in the pantry or kitchen. You can trace a suitable place to lay traps by the traces in the dust on the floor or by mouse droppings.
- Caution, never handle dead mice with your bare hands. They can be carriers of diseases and infections. If you don't have gloves, use a microtene bag to catch the dead mouse.
