The Cars - the great story of Route 66
A great gift to all Route 66 lovers was the 2006 animated film The Cars, screened here under the title The Cars. The Disney/Pixar-produced film was even originally called Route 66, but was later renamed after some deliberation to avoid the association with the famous American TV series.
Even if you may not be a fan of animated films, you definitely don't want to miss Cars. Almost the entire story takes place on the Sixty-Six, and the authors profess their love for this American legend. Anyone who knows Route 66 at least a little will notice a large number of allusions to specific places (for example, the famous Here It Is sign at the Jack Rabbit Trading Post in Arizona, or the famous Cadillacs at Amarillo, Texas, etc.).
Od 6. december 2006, Cars is also available on DVD, accompanied by a very nice documentary about how the filmmakers, accompanied by writer Michael Wallis, drove all along Route 66 to get original inspiration for the film.
I also consider the Czech dubbing to be extremely good, with Richard Krajčo, Bolek Polívka, Petr Novotný, Jiří Macháček and others.
Oscar 2 nominations: Animated Film, Song - Our Town
Cars is a 2006 animated film by Pixar. It is set in the environment of car racing and the major American road Route 66. The fairy tale has an educational suBTEXt hidden in its plot. There are no people or animals in the film, just machines. For example, an insect is represented by a VW Beetle. The main hero is the rookie racer Lightning McQueen. He is one of the 3 competitors who has a chance for the Golden Piston title. On his way to the last decisive race he has an accident and gets to the remote village of Kardánová Lhota. Because he's going to wreck the local road, he has to stay here while they fix it. Eventually, he befriends all the residents and falls in love with local beauty Sally. His new friends show him that life doesn't have to be about winning. But then Blesek is tracked down by journalists and he takes part in the last decisive race. He won't win, but he does a good deed by pushing the veteran King to the finish of his last race. But he eventually turns down an offer to join his dream team. In the end of the film, he revives the glory of the famous Route 66, on which Kardánová Lhota is located.
