Lilac (Syringa L.) is a genus of shrubs to smaller trees in the olive family. The best known is the common lilac, which is often cultivated and commonly wept in the Czech Republic. Osmanthus blooms beautifully in April and smells intoxicating. The white flowers are about half a centimetre long in clusters. It grows very slowly for the first three years but then forms compact shrubs.
