The strawberry is a set of achenes on a juicy, thickened flower bed, growing on a strawberry tree (Fragaria). This set of achenes produces a false fruit. The strawberry is a small fruit.
Strawberries are a very rich source of vitamin C. Their content is comparable to that of citrus fruits, which can range from 40 to 90 mg/100 g of fruit, depending on the variety. In addition to their high vitamin C content, they are also a rich source of vitamins A, B, E and organic acids (such as malic, citric, quinic, oxalic, salicylic and ellagic acids), which are active in the prevention of cancer. Organic acids are an important factor in giving the typical and characteristic aroma and taste.
Strawberries also contain easily digestible fibre, which makes them easy to cook and to make jams or marmalades. Among the minerals, potassium, zinc, magnesium, sulphur, calcium and some non-typical elements such as boron, fluorine, cobalt and molybdenum are mainly present in strawberries. They are also a significant source of fluid, as the fruit is made up of 87 % water.

Compared to other fruits, they contain a small proportion of natural sugars. The consumption of strawberries is said to have a positive effect on the production of testosterone, which activates sperm. It promotes blood circulation in the genital organs thanks to its high content of antioxidants. They also promote metabolism, excretion, counteract the formation of urinary and gallstones, reduce colds, and help in the treatment of heart disease.

Strawberries have been known since ancient Roman times (although archaeological findings show that they were consumed as early as the Stone Age), but they did not come into widespread use until the late Middle Ages, when they were cultivated mainly by monks. The garden strawberries that are eaten today were created by crossbreeding several species of strawberry. Some of them were brought to Europe by French corsairs in the 17th century after the discovery of America. The crossbreeding of species by a Louis XV gardener named Antoine Duchesne is responsible for the creation of the modern strawberry . His work led to the crossbreeding of the Virginia strawberry and the Chilean strawberry, which resulted in the creation of a new variety, the pineapple strawberry, which is grown today.

Strawberries were formerly considered the fruit of royalty or the fruit of love for their taste, with their consumption thought to stimulate the appetite for sex.
It was not until the 19th century that strawberries began to be cultivated on a wider scale in the Neveklov region of Bohemia and Moravia.
