Pelargonium (Pelargonium) is a genus of annual or perennial plants, herbs to semi-shrubs or shrubs containing about 240-300 species in the cacti family (Geraniaceae), found mostly in tropical and subtropical regions, especially in southern Africa. Pelargonium is used as an ornamental flower, but also in perfumery, as a medicinal and dye plant, or to flavour food
Thegeranium is a perennial plant. It is propagated by cuttings, which are often carried out in August or commonly in July to October, but also successfully in the pre-spring (February-March). More rarely, geraniums are also propagated by seed, sown in December. During cultivation, the plants need to be adequately watered and fertilised. Cultivated species of geranium usually flower from May to September, but some species flower all year round. Geraniums suffer from many diseases, mainly viruses and fungal diseases, but pest infestation and physiological diseases from nutrient deficiency are also quite common. They can become frostbitten in spring and autumn, and sometimes suffer from heatstroke and drought or overwatering in summer.
Cultivated geraniums usually prefer a sunny or bright location, however, Pelargonium grandiflorum, for example, does not tolerate sunny locations or direct sun, but prefers a bright location. A light frost-free room is suitable for overwintering. Soils should be fertile, humid and rather permeable, geraniums do not tolerate waterlogging
