Chalcedony is a common microcrystalline variety of quartz. It is divided into many varieties depending on its various impurities, with the most famous being agate, carnelian, onyx, heliotrope and jasper. This unique blue chalcedony comes from Malawi, specifically from the area near the village of Ngabu.
Uniqueness of the stone: Chalcedony is a pleasant blue shade, commonly forming cavities and veins up to several centimetres in thickness and often accompanied by quartz and calcite growing into the chalcedony vein. The quality of the raw material is reflected in the price of the stones, with only about 1% of the total volume of stones in the highest category.
However, if it contains calcite veins, beware of chemical cleaning agents that may erode them.
