Effective system for protecting sensitive teeth
elmex® SENSITIVE PLUS products were developed in cooperation with dental clinics specifically for the care of exposed tooth necks. elmex®
SENSITIVE PLUS toothpaste and mouthwash contain highly effective amine fluoride. This elmex® active ingredient supports the remineralization of tooth structure and protects against tooth decay. Additionally, the toothpaste exhibits low abrasivity (RDA 30), thereby preventing excessive wear on soft tooth material during cleaning.
Elmex® SENSITIVE PLUS mouthwash is the ideal supplement for daily oral care. It contains a combination of highly active amine fluoride with a protective polymer, which enhances the effect of elmex® SENSITIVE PLUS toothpaste. Clinical tests demonstrate that the special protective system of elmex® SENSITIVE PLUS consisting of toothpaste and mouthwash significantly reduces sensitivity of tooth necks with regular application and proves to be effective in preventing their decay.
Exposed tooth necks require special care:
What are the causes of tooth sensitivity? Do your teeth hurt after consuming very hot or cold foods and drinks? The most common cause in such cases is receding gums leading to the exposure of tooth necks, which then remain unprotected. Unlike tooth crowns, the surface of tooth necks is not protected by hard enamel, but is made up of softer dentin. Not only are they more sensitive, but they also suffer excessive abrasion (abrasion) of the tooth material and are therefore particularly at risk of tooth decay. In this context, the term 'tooth neck decay' has become established.
Therefore, be gentle when caring for exposed tooth necks. If you brush your teeth horizontally and also choose a toothbrush with hard bristles, the gums and necks are subjected to too much pressure. Moreover, this can lead to excessive wear of the tooth material, resulting in so-called “wedge defects”. Therefore, it is better to use soft toothbrushes. It is also important that the toothpaste has a low abrasivity (RDA 35) so that the soft tooth material of the necks is not excessively abraded. It is best if your dentist or dental hygienist demonstrates which tooth cleaning techniques are most suitable for you. An important complement to tooth cleaning is rinsing with fluoride mouthwash, in order to treat areas that the toothbrush cannot reach.
