The company Doetsch Grether was founded in Basel, Switzerland in 1899, with an initial focus on pharmaceuticals. Later, the company's interest also turned to skin care – thus creating a cosmetics department that later became independent under the fenjal brand.

The first product of the newly established fenjal brand was cream oil for bathing, introduced in 1962. A year later, the new brand was introduced to the international market, where it met with favorable interest and popularity.
Scientific knowledge combined with the constant search for perfection contributed to the expansion of the new Swiss cosmetics, which even today enjoys immense popularity - including its newly launched products.
