For rubber:
it is widely used in the formulation of creams and pastes. It is also used to lubricate rubbers as a protection against abrasion. It is very soluble in water. 11 out of 10 washing machine manufacturers recommend lubricating washing machine seals at least once a year.

Creams:
used in creams to form an ointment base (especially as an ingredient in moisturizing creams and soaps, as a humectant in toothpastes, in the manufacture of plastics especially as a plasticizer, pharmaceuticals, chewing gum, pastes, dyes and explosives)

Antifreeze:
dilution with water lowers its freezing point to -25 °C

Food industry:
as a binder, it has a distinctly sweet and bitter taste. As a food ingredient, it is labelled E 422.

Medical:
in the treatment of cerebral oedema as an additive to infusions, to reduce intraocular pressure, in constipation to soften stools in the form of glycerine suppositories or as part of enemas.

It can also be used as one of the ingredients to make a base for e-cigarettes.

The density is 1.25-1.26 g/cm3.
