Crystal is one of the most popular gemstones in the world. In terms of composition, it is the purest transparent variety of crystalline quartz. It is formed by crystallization from very pure siliceous hydrothermal solutions; most often forming pseudohexagonal crystals that can be up to several decimetres in size. It is often found in cracks in some sediments, crystalline schists (so-called alpine veins) or in cavities in pegmatites. It can be found in many locations around the world, the most famous being the Minas Geraís deposit in Brazil.
