Bull's-eye is indeed born from the reddening of tiger's eye during the thermal processes of rock formation. However, this mineral is very rare in nature, found only in a few locations worldwide, the most famous of which are the deposits in the Doorn Mountains in South Africa. Because of its rarity, it is now usually produced by firing tiger's eye at temperatures of around 500 °C. The raw material comes from South Africa.

In terms of composition, it is a form of quartz permeated by parallel fibres of 'stepolite asbestos'.
