Obsidian, also known as volcanic glass, is formed in a unique way when hot lava cools rapidly, for example in water or on the Earth's surface, and the process is so quick that individual minerals do not have time to crystallize. The stone comes from Mexico.

Uniqueness of the stone: Rainbow obsidian is characterized by its dark to black color with a finely striped pattern. When the stone is properly polished and under strong bright light, rainbow effects can form on its layers due to the refraction of light.

Limitations: Obsidian resists most acids. However, it is fragile, so it requires careful handling.
