Tiger's Eye is quartz permeated with parallel filaments of so-called step-dolite asbestos. It forms veins several centimetres thick in brown quartzite, and a considerable amount of parent rock must be removed to obtain it. A popular type of Tiger's Eye is a variant with one or more veins of hematite. This is mined in only one world mine, which is currently closed.

Uniqueness of the stone: Tiger's Eye is famous for its yellow to yellow-brown colouring, which is also accompanied by a silky lustre. Due to its striking appearance, it is often used to make exclusive figurines and jewellery.
