Quartz permeated with parallel filaments of so-called stepolite asbestos. Tiger's Eye forms veins several centimetres thick in brown quartzite and a considerable amount of parent rock must be removed to extract it. Its occurrence is limited to a few locations worldwide, the most famous of which is the Doorn Mountains in South Africa, from where we also obtain it.
