The Aquafresh brand (originally Aqua-Fresh) has been on the market since 1973, developed by the Beecham Group, a pharmaceutical company that is now part of the global GlaxoSmithKline group. The original formula symbolised 'double protection' - a white fluoride strip to protect teeth and a blue 'aqua' strip for fresh breath. Ten years later the formula was reformulated to 'triple protection' by adding a red component for healthy gums. The three stripes - red, white and blue - have been the registered trademark of Aquafresh since 1983.
