A regular toothbrush will not reach all the spaces. The most risky spaces are the interdental spaces, and interdental brushes and floss or tape are used to clean them. It is best to have a dental hygienist assess the size of the interdental spaces and the size of the toothbrush. All interdental spaces should be cleaned. Floss or tape is used if the interdental spaces are rather tight. For wider spaces between the teeth, a combination of both floss and interdental brush is ideal, as floss does not have as large a cleaning surface.
