Ammonia solution is used for cleaning, etching, and other technical purposes. Technical ammonia solution is a solution of synthetic ammonia in water. It is a caustic liquid with a penetrating odor, strongly alkaline reaction, colorless to yellowish, sometimes slightly cloudy.

Example of use:

Ammonia solution is also used for oxidizing the surface of new zinc-coated sheets and gutters – on fresh surfaces, paint does not adhere evenly, but creates spots. This process “ages” fresh zinc, so later the paint will hold normally, and the surface will be well cleaned: wash the area you want to paint with a 2–3% solution of ammonia (dilute 25% ammonia solution with water in a ratio of 1 part ammonia to 10 parts water, you can also add detergent, about 5 ml / liter), let it act for about 10 minutes until it creates a metallic gray surface, which you then rinse with clean water. After drying, you can start painting. The solution is toxic, as is the rinse water, dispose of according to the manufacturer's instructions. Available in drugstores.
