A basic chemical raw material for common uses. It is used, for example, in the bleaching and dyeing of textiles, for the preparation of degreasing baths, for cleaning boilers, pipes and waste.
The dosage is governed by the relevant work procedure.
Pour 5 to 10 tablespoons (50-100 g) of sodium hydroxide into the siphon of a sink, basin, bath or toilet and pour 0.5 l of warm water over it. Leave for 30 minutes and then rinse with warm water. Repeat the procedure for heavier soiling.
Storage
in a dry place at a temperature of +5 to +25°C.
May be corrosive to metals. Causes severe skin and eye damage.
In case of contact with skin (or hair). Remove all contaminated clothing immediately. Rinse skin with water. If inhaled, move the affected person to fresh air and keep him/her in a resting position to facilitate breathing. If exposed or unwell, call the Poison Information Centre or a doctor. If eyes are affected, flush gently with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if fitted and if easily removable. Continue flushing. If swallowed, rinse mouth. Do not induce vomiting.
Wear protective gloves/clothing and goggles/face shield. Do not breathe dust/smoke/gas/mist/vapour/aerosols. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Keep out of reach of children. Keep only in original packaging. Store locked. Remove contents/packaging by taking to hazardous waste collection.
