Test your knowledge about health. You may know some of the following statements, but do they reflect the truth or are they just saying so?
1 .MYTH: Vitamin C will cure your cold. while this antioxidant cannot completely cure a cold, it can shorten it by activating the immune system. Another question then is how much vitamin C a person should take daily. Too much can cause stomach pain, diarrhea and kidney stones. Consult your physician for safe and effective doSage.

2. MYTH: If you have a runny nose, feel free to fidget. Although some people are convinced that it is perfectly natural and safe to tease. Unknowingly, they increase the risk of earaches or sinus infections adding to their colds.

3. MYTH: Kissing is one of the easiest ways to spread infection.
FACT: You'll be amazed! Although kissing a person with a cold carries some risks, you are much more likely to get infected just by shaking hands with someone who is sick.

4. MYTH: If you go out with wet hair, you will catch a cold. The cold is caused by contact with people who have already succumbed to it. Not a walk in cold weather with wet hair. The truth is that colds cause pneumonia, so it's a good idea to dry your hair before you go for a walk.

5. MYTH: Beef broth cures colds, say mothers and grandmothers.
FACT: A steaming bowl of broth can be a pleasant experience in times of illness. But the only effective cure for the common cold is time. Moms are right about something, though. Chicken soup strengthens the exhausted organism and temporarily relieves the stuffy nose.

6. MYTH: If you have a cold, you shouldn't fly on a plane. Otherwise you'll infect all your fellow passengers.
FACT: Getting cold to get on a plane is really the last thing your body needs. But not because of the myths that the circulating air will make everyone on the plane sick. The serious danger is the increased stress associated with changes in air pressure, which puts a strain on your already suffering lungs.

7. MYTH: A fever must be starved and a cold must be overcome.
FACT: There is no scientific evidence that you should eat more heartily when you have a cold and fast when you have a fever. Let's face it, a good healthy diet is always in order when fighting a cold or flu virus

8. MYTH: A humidifier won't help you get rid of or prevent a cold.
fACT: Proper humidity is always important in the fight against viruses. Your mucous membranes are the first line of defence against attacking germs. Without the necessary moisture, the mucous membranes cannot prevent germs from entering your body.

9. MYTH: Keeping surfaces clean will stop the spread of flu and colds.
FACT: Flu and colds spread in different ways. Colds are usually transmitted by touch, and flu viruses are airborne. Although keeping surfaces clean can help, the best defence against both flu and colds is to stop viruses before they become airborne or stick to a surface.
