Baltech sodium hydroxide (lye) is intended for cleaning pipes and drains, degreasing baths, and also for bleaching or dyeing textiles. It is used not only for cleaning drains, pipes, and boilers. Dosage is governed by the relevant work procedure. Sodium hydroxide is a hygroscopic substance. It absorbs carbon dioxide from the air. It dissolves easily in water and ethanol. A large amount of heat is released during dissolution. The solution reacts strongly alkaline.
Clogging of waste pipes in the kitchen, bathroom, or toilet often occurs due to organic deposits, hair, nails, or animal fur. These impurities form a solid and resistant barrier that nearly prevents the flow of water. Every household encounters a clogged drain or toilet from time to time. Lye is primarily used here for cleaning pipes and plumbing. It effectively eliminates various organic material and restores the flow in a clogged drain within minutes.
Sodium hydroxide, commonly referred to as lye, is a highly caustic substance. Other names for sodium hydroxide include sodium hydroxide, natron, or caustic soda. Its chemical formula is NaOH. The substance itself is not explosive or flammable; however, it can decompose under heat, producing toxic or corrosive gases.
