Sedlec Ia is the most famous and oldest product of Sedlecký kaolin a. s. It has been produced since 1892, when the Zettlitzer Kaolinwerke AG was founded, which is the predecessor of the current Sedlecký kaolin a. s.
The initial use of Sedlec Ia kaolin was in porcelain production, and many manufacturers still use it as the main plastic component of the material for plastic forming, casting, or isostatic pressing of tableware. The combination of plasticity in its raw state and high heat stability is also applied in the production of ceramic rollers for quick-firing kilns. In pencil manufacturing, alongside plasticity, the very low content of harmful substances in the washed kaolin plays a significant role. This is also relevant for the use of kaolin in cosmetics.
