For summer harvest in June and July, we recommend establishing the crop from direct sowing; plants must be thinned. When establishing the crop from seedlings, there is a high risk of bolting. If it is still necessary to establish the crop from seedlings, it is essential to maintain a temperature of at least 20 °C throughout the day during its pre-cultivation. Seedlings should not be hardened off in any case. For planting from the second half of July, it is possible to pre-cultivate seedlings in the usual way; plants are planted in the field as soon as they reach 8-10 true leaves. The heads are dense, short, and light green in color. Can be grown under glass or foil and in the field. With proper harvest timing, the heads can also be stored for a short time.
For cultivating Peking cabbage, the most suitable humus-rich soils with good water capacity and a pH of 6-6.5 are recommended. Acidic soils are not suitable. Due to the short growing season, it requires a good supply of available nutrients in the soil. We mainly grow for autumn harvest with a recommended sowing around July 15. We can sow directly or pre-cultivate seedlings. During spring sowings, there is a risk of premature bolting, especially at low vernalization temperatures. The risk of flowering can be minimized in this growing method by pre-cultivating seedlings at a higher temperature (20°C) until they reach the stage of 8-10 true leaves. Seedlings should not be hardened off.
