Lettuce requires good, sufficiently airy soil in the second category. It is demanding in nutrient supply in immediately available form. We recommend sunny positions. When sowing directly in the garden, sow the seeds shallowly in rows or by pinches with spacing of 25 x 25 to 30 x 30 cm and thin the plants after emergence. For pre-growing seedlings, sow the seeds shallowly in pots and at the stage of true leaf formation, prick out the seedlings to a spacing of 4 x 4 cm. Maintain daytime temperatures between 16 - 20°C and nighttime temperatures of 4 - 6°C. Transplant when there are 4 - 6 true leaves, shallowly into the garden ensuring that the heart of the plant is not buried. Water regularly with smaller amounts of water.
