Chamotte smoothing compound for use in the construction, repair, and grouting of fireplaces and their tiles, embedding lightweight fireproof boards, mats, and chamotte slabs and elements onto ceramic and metal substrates. It can be used for both minor repairs and for the construction of a new fireplace, provided the correct mixing ratio is maintained and the maximum layer thickness of the mortar in individual layers does not exceed 5 mm.
Depending on the extent of the repair or construction, we decide how much chamotte mortar to prepare at once. For a full package, prepare a solution of water and water glass (total 1 l) in a 1:1 ratio, i.e. 0.5 l of water glass and 0.5 l of water. Pour the contents of the bag (5 kg) into a container and pour in the prepared solution, mix well, and let it stand for about 3 minutes. Then mix lightly again, and the mortar is ready for use. We recommend preparing only as much as can be processed within 2 hours. If work is interrupted, smooth the mass in the container lightly and cover it with 1 mm of water. This prevents drying out, and subsequently, the work can continue after pouring off the water.
When constructing new fireplaces, we primarily observe the maximum layer thickness of mortar up to 5 mm. Chamotte bricks and elements should be slightly moistened before the actual construction! For grouting and repairing damaged masonry, proceed as follows: Moisten the repaired areas with water, then fill them with the prepared mortar and smooth the surface. The repaired fireplace should be allowed to dry according to the size and extent of the repair for 12–24 hours. Then dry it further with gentle heating (2–6 hours) until the repaired areas harden completely.
Remove all greasy impurities and especially rust from the substrate. It is recommended to use Rust Remover. We recommend coating the substrate with a thinner mortar before bonding. Let the layer dry and then proceed with the bonding. The mortar can also be used to protect and repair internal masonry and furnaces and metal parts exposed to high temperatures. The mortar can be used in all places where the temperature does not exceed 1400 °C.
Safety instructions:
When working, use protective gloves, protective clothing, and protective goggles or a face shield. Follow basic hygiene rules! After work, wash your hands or affected skin with water and soap and treat with a suitable repair cream. In case of eye contact, rinse with running water; if swallowed accidentally, rinse your mouth, drink 0.5 l of water, and seek medical attention. In more serious cases, always seek medical help.
