SOKRATES® Wood Stain is a water-dilutable stain. It is intended for outdoor and indoor environments, for industrial production, for crafts and hobby use. It protects wood from UV radiation. It creates silky glossy, pleasantly soft velvet surfaces. Modified linseed oil gives the stain extreme penetration properties. The highly hydrophobic stain minimizes moisture penetration into the wood. The surface of the Stain is resistant to mold and fungi attack. It prevents further growth into the wooden substrate. The stain dries more slowly. It should not be diluted before use unless necessary.

Application:
SOKRATES Wood Stain is intended for top coatings of outdoor wooden cladding for buildings, pergolas, fences, cottages, entrance doors, windows, etc. In interiors, it is used for coatings of ceilings, wall cladding, beams in attics, and similar applications. The surface of the wood should be sanded with sandpaper No. 80 - 100 before applying for outdoor use. NOT with a rotary sander. A perfectly smooth wood surface is not ideal. Although the Wood Stain is not a special coating for wooden floors, it is still suitable for coatings of outdoor walkable surfaces with a non-slip relief. For footwear soiled with sand and similar materials, a cleaning zone is suitable. It withstands weathering influences significantly longer than oils. The recommended application layer is 2 to 3 coats, depending on the level of stress, exposure, and so on.
Where there is a risk of moisture affecting the wood by wood-destroying fungi, we recommend treating the wood with Lignofix E plus before applying the stain, or another suitable biocidal agent. Another biocidal preparation must be tested in advance, and the manufacturer's recommended waiting time for subsequent application of water-dilutable coatings must be strictly followed. Lignofix E plus must have a waiting period of 2 days before applying the stain. Footwear soiled with sand damages the surface. Soiled surfaces should not be scrubbed, especially when wet, with hard brushes. A free drainage of water must be ensured on the floor surface. Non-absorbent woods with a high tannin content prolong drying.
Hard, low-absorbent woods: oak, Siberian pine, Siberian larch, ash, etc. Due to the high tannin content, subsequent slow drying, and the danger of tannin leaching, we recommend applying the first coat of Wood Stain diluted with water in a ratio of 1:1. After drying - approximately 12 - 24 hours, apply the second and third coats.
For woods with a high tannin content (oak, robin, teak, bangkirai, larch, Douglas fir, MERBAU !!!! caution), rain may cause their leaching. This can result in the formation of stains on the wood and discoloration of light walls and plasters. Remember to use suitable gutter elements – drip edges.
Softwoods: – spruce, lime, alder, etc. SOKRATES® Wood Stain is applied to new wooden substrates 2 to 3 times based on the level of surface stress. When renovating, it is necessary to carefully remove all previous coatings that may reduce the absorbency of the surface. These areas significantly prolong drying, start issues of overlapping, staining, and may also be the cause of reduced durability. After each use, close the container very carefully. Do not leave the container open for an unnecessarily long time!
Application:
SOKRATES Wood Stain is preferably applied with a brush, suitable roller, or spraying, while continuously brushing it out at a minimum temperature of the coating material, air, and substrate of +10 °C and throughout the drying time. Recommended application temperature: +18 °C to +23 °C
Thinner: Water.
Cleaning tools: With water, dried paint can be removed with organic thinners.
